How to make fine or thinning hair look thicker
Fine or thinning hair is one of the most common concerns we hear in the chair, and the right products make a bigger difference than most men expect. These are the rules our barbers follow.
Rule 1: avoid shine
Shiny products reflect light off the scalp and make hair clump into thin strands, which shows more scalp. Choose a matte finish instead.
Rule 2: avoid weight
Heavy waxes and gels flatten fine hair within hours. Choose light products that add grip, not weight.
The thicker-hair routine
- Start with a pre-styler. Spray Sea Salt Spray or Fixing Spray into towel-dried hair, focusing on the roots.
- Blow-dry with lift. Dry your hair while lifting it up and back from the roots with your fingers or a brush. This is where most of the volume comes from.
- Add texture at the roots. A light shake of Texture Powder props the hair up and keeps it there.
- Finish with a matte styler. A pea-sized amount of Grooming Clay adds thickness and hold without shine.
Curly or wavy hair?
Use Curl Cream to define curls and reduce frizz, with a little Sea Salt Spray at the roots for volume.
Ask about your cut
The right haircut matters as much as the product. Shorter sides and a textured top usually make fine hair look fuller. Book in and ask your barber.
Still not sure what you need? Message our barbers or ask in the chair next time you're in. We'll point you to the right product.
